Common Problems

People seek a consultation for a wide range of difficulties, including anxiety, stress, low mood, intrusive thoughts, relationship problems, or challenges in their personal or professional lives.

Some people have a clear sense of what they want to address, while others feel stuck or uncertain about what is wrong. This can involve strained relationships, persistent worry, or a general sense of unhappiness, alongside uncertainty about how to move forward..

An initial step is to begin understanding what is happening, including factors that may be contributing to or maintaining these difficulties. Where appropriate, psychological therapy can offer a space to work towards meaningful and lasting change.

Psychological Therapy

Therapy aims to help you understand and address the difficulties you are experiencing. David McCormack draws on a range of evidence-based psychological therapies, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and related approaches.

Therapy may involve exploring unhelpful patterns of thinking, such as excessive self-criticism or worry, alongside the emotions, behaviours, and underlying beliefs linked to them. It can also involve considering the wider context of your life, including relationships, work, family dynamics, or other pressures. Where these factors are unhelpful, therapy can support you in finding constructive ways to address them and move forward.

Sessions are guided by your needs, goals, and pace, with a focus on developing understanding and supporting meaningful change over time.

Appointments

Appointments take place in a comfortable and pleasant consulting room in leafy south Belfast on Rugby Road, near Queen's University Belfast.

However, if you would prefer to attend remotely using video this is possible using Microsoft Teams or Zoom.

Fees

The first appointment is an initial assessment lasting approximately 90 minutes, with a fee of £190.

Subsequent therapy sessions typically last 60 minutes and are charged at £130 per session.

If you have never attended a clinical psychology appointment before, you may feel unsure about what to expect, and it would be completely understandable to feel that way. In your initial meeting, David McCormack will ask some questions to understand your experiences and what has led you to seek support. You may also complete a brief psychological questionnaire together.

By the end of the consultation, you should have a clearer sense of the difficulties you are experiencing, what the best next steps might be, and whether psychological therapy is likely to be helpful. If therapy seems likely to be of benefit, this would typically involve meeting for a number of sessions of focused psychological therapy aimed at addressing the problems identified.
